The government has given policy approval to construct an inland container and bulk terminal in Khanpur area of Narayanganj at a total cost of Tk 184.91 crore. The decision was approved at a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Government Purchase, held virtually on Tuesday (December 30) at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed. According to meeting sources, tenders were invited through an open bidding process for Package-3 (civil works) under the “Construction of Inland Container and Bulk Terminal at Khanpur, Narayanganj (1st Revised)” project. A total of seven companies participated in the tender process, of which five were found technically responsive. After completing the evaluation process, the Tender Evaluation Committee (TEC) recommended awarding the contract to Wahid Construction Limited, a Dhaka-based firm, which submitted the lowest responsive bid. The civil works will be implemented at a contract value of Tk 184,91,57,809. The first revised version of the project received approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 18 this year. The project timeline has been set from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2027. Once completed, the terminal is expected to significantly improve inland cargo handling capacity, reduce pressure on road transportation, and enhance the efficiency of river-based trade and logistics across the region.
