Why Drinking 8–10 Glasses of Water Daily Is Essential Even in Winter

Unlike summer, winter rarely triggers frequent thirst, causing many people to unintentionally reduce water intake. Yet, more than 70 percent of the human body is made up of water, making hydration essential throughout the year. Cold weather naturally lowers body moisture, increasing the risk of dehydration.

A lack of sufficient water can result in excessive hunger, digestive problems, acidity, and constipation. Daily water requirements vary depending on age, gender, and physical activity. Generally, women need 6–8 glasses, physically active women need 8–10 glasses, and men require 8–10 glasses per day. Those engaged in heavy physical labor may need up to 10–14 glasses.

Many avoid cold water in winter, which leads to reduced intake. Drinking warm water can be an effective alternative. Warm water helps flush out toxins through sweating, improves digestion, boosts blood circulation, and relieves constipation. Regular consumption of warm water with honey, ginger, and lemon may also support weight management.
