The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns for individual taxpayers by one month. According to an official order issued on Sunday, the new deadline for filing returns for the 2025–26 tax year has been set as January 31, 2026.
Previously, the deadline was November 30, which was later extended to December 31 due to a low number of submissions. However, mandatory online filing requirements and other challenges resulted in fewer returns than expected. Considering these issues, NBR decided to further extend the deadline.
The decision was taken under Section 334 of the Income Tax Act 2023, with prior government approval, in the interest of the public.
