Class Three Schoolgirl Shot Near Teknaf Border, Fighting for Life at CMCH ICU

A serious border-related shooting incident has left a young schoolgirl critically injured in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The injured child has been identified as Hujaifa Afnan (9), a class three student from the Lambabil area of Hoikyang Union in Teknaf Upazila. Her father’s name is Jasim Uddin.

The incident occurred near the Hoikyang Techchabridge border area, where armed militants from Myanmar reportedly opened fire, according to family members. Hujaifa sustained bullet injuries and was immediately rushed for advanced medical care.

She was brought to Chattogram Medical College Hospital at around 4:30 pm on Sunday (January 11). After receiving initial treatment at the emergency department, doctors admitted her to the ICU due to her critical condition.

The injured child was transported to the hospital by her uncle, Shawkat Ali, who said that her condition deteriorated rapidly after the shooting, prompting an urgent transfer to Chattogram.

Confirming the matter, Nurul Alam Ashek, In-Charge of the CMCH Police Outpost, stated,
“A child patient with gunshot injuries was brought to the hospital. She has been admitted to the ICU, and the matter has been reported to the concerned authorities.”

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about civilian safety in the Teknaf border region. Local residents have demanded stronger security measures to protect innocent lives, especially children living in border areas.
