A horrific road accident on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in the Baniyapara area of Daudkandi upazila, Cumilla, has claimed the lives of four people, including a woman and children. The incident occurred around 1:00 pm on Friday (January 9) following a collision involving a bus, an auto-rickshaw, and a motorcycle.
Officer-in-Charge of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, Iqbal Bahar Majumder, said the fire may have originated from the motorcycle’s fuel tank after it collided with the bus. Within moments, the fire spread to the bus, triggering a devastating blaze.
Upon receiving the information, a Fire Service unit rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control. After extinguishing the flames, the bodies of one woman, one man, and two children were recovered from the site. Efforts are underway to identify the victims.
The accident caused temporary disruption to traffic on that stretch of the highway. Police and Fire Service personnel are jointly conducting rescue and investigation operations. Highway police said a detailed investigation will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the accident.
