In Islam, prayer (du‘a) is a powerful means of shaping human life, especially when it comes from parents for their children. A parent’s prayer is filled with sincerity, love, and selfless hope—making it one of the most accepted supplications in the sight of Allah.

The life of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) beautifully demonstrates the role of du‘a in building generations. When he left his wife Hajar and son Ismail in a barren valley by Allah’s command, he prayed not only for their safety but for the spiritual and material prosperity of future generations. These prayers eventually led to the establishment of Makkah and the arrival of the final Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Allah mentions Ibrahim’s prayer in the Qur’an:
“My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits.” (Al-Baqarah 2:126)

One of Ibrahim’s most significant supplications was for a messenger to arise from his descendants who would teach divine guidance and purify humanity. This prayer was fulfilled through Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“There are three supplications that are never rejected: the supplication of parents for their child, the supplication of a traveler, and the supplication of the oppressed.” (Abu Dawud)

Allah has taught believers beautiful supplications in the Qur’an for family and children, including:
“Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders of the righteous.” (Al-Furqan 25:74)

These prayers are not mere words; they are a complete framework for raising righteous, God-conscious generations.

In a time when parents are deeply concerned about their children’s future, returning to these Prophetic and Quranic prayers can be the most effective way to nurture faith, character, and success.
