The moon of the holy month of Rajab has been sighted in the sky of Bangladesh. Consequently, the holy month of Rajab of Hijri year 1447 will begin from Monday (December 22), and Shab-e-Meraj will be observed across the country on the night of Friday, January 16.
The information was confirmed on Sunday evening (December 21) by Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain after a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee.
He stated that reports from district administrations, Islamic Foundation headquarters and its divisional and district offices, the Meteorological Department, the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization confirmed the sighting of the Rajab crescent moon.
Accordingly, the holy month of Rajab will commence on Monday, and Shab-e-Meraj will be observed nationwide on January 16.
The meeting was also attended by Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary Md Kamal Uddin, Additional Secretary Md Fazlur Rahman, Islamic Foundation Director General A Salam Khan, along with other committee members.
Shab-e-Meraj holds great religious significance for Muslims, who observe the night with prayers, supplications, and special religious programs.
