Sylhet Stumble to Modest Total as Mustafizur Hits Historic 400-Wicket Mark

In the 10th match of the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Sylhet Titans struggled with the bat and managed only 144 runs for eight wickets against Rangpur Riders at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Rangpur won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that paid off early.

Sylhet suffered immediate setbacks as opener Saim Ayub departed after scoring 11 runs. Rony Talukdar showed brief promise but was dismissed for 19. Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz failed to anchor the innings and was removed for just four runs by a trademark cutter from Mustafizur Rahman.

Parvez Hossain Emon attempted to stabilize the innings but could not accelerate, scoring 15 off 19 balls before getting out. With wickets falling at regular intervals, Sylhet found themselves under constant pressure.

Afif Hossain emerged as the standout performer for Sylhet, playing a responsible knock of 46 runs off 31 balls, including four boundaries and a six. English batter Ethan Brooks provided support with a steady 32 off 30 deliveries, helping Sylhet cross the 140-run mark.

Late cameos from Azmatullah Omarzai added some quick runs, but Sylhet failed to capitalize in the final overs. They ended their innings at 144 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.

Rangpur’s bowling unit delivered a disciplined performance, with Fahim Ashraf leading the attack, while Mustafizur Rahman and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury struck at crucial moments. By dismissing Miraz, Mustafizur reached the landmark of 400 wickets in T20 cricket, achieving the feat in just 315 matches. Among Bangladeshi bowlers, only Shakib Al Hasan has taken more T20 wickets.
