Feni Draped in Black Flags as Homeland Mourns Khaleda Zia with Prayers

An unprecedented wave of mourning has swept through Feni following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. Black flags now line roads, homes, and institutions across the district, symbolizing collective grief. Political leaders, activists, and ordinary citizens alike are wearing black badges and offering prayers in her memory.

From Tuesday morning, Quran recitations, prayer sessions, and memorial gatherings were held at various mosques, madrasas, orphanages, and at her ancestral home in South Shreepur, Fulgazi. BNP leaders and supporters also rushed to Dhaka to participate in her final farewell.

Notably, leaders from rival political parties, including Awami League figures currently in hiding, expressed condolences on social media, acknowledging Khaleda Zia’s role in defending democracy and civil rights. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders also conveyed their deep sorrow.

Locals describe Khaleda Zia as more than a political icon—she was a symbol of pride for Feni. A five-time Member of Parliament from Feni-1 and a three-time Prime Minister, her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of the people of her homeland.
