Brazilian football icon Neymar has successfully undergone surgery to repair a meniscus injury in his left knee. The 33-year-old forward had been struggling with persistent knee pain throughout the last season but has now taken a major step toward full recovery.

According to Santos FC, the arthroscopic surgery was performed by the Brazilian national team’s medical specialist, who had previously handled Neymar’s foot fracture and ACL surgery in 2023.

Despite playing through injury, Neymar showed immense determination while representing Santos. His crucial five goals in the final four matches played a decisive role in preventing the club’s relegation from Brazil’s top division.

Following the successful surgery, Neymar has shifted his focus toward making a strong comeback ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Earning a place in head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s plans remains his top priority. Although Neymar holds Brazil’s all-time scoring record with 79 goals in 128 appearances, he has been absent from international football for over two years.

After spending 18 months at Saudi club Al-Hilal and featuring in just seven matches, Neymar returned to his boyhood club Santos in January this year. His current contract with Santos is set to expire at the end of this year, but discussions over a contract extension are reportedly ongoing.
